Millennial, by definition means people born since 1980. We are the “free-spending”
Generation who’s main concern is whether or not we have our cell phone and IPod with us at
every moment of every day. We wake up and are exposed to media almost instantly, so it is no
surprise that we are the most technologically savvy generation. There are many advantages to
being a millennial. My generation is highly less likely to use recreational drugs, we drink less
alcohol, and smoke less than that of past generations. We strive for achievement and are
more likely to go to college. However, not everything is perfect with being a millennial.
We have the tendency to use bad grammar and punctuality. This most likely is due to the
amount of text messages we send out using bad grammar. The biggest setback to being a
millennial is that we have a “Grass Hopper” mind. Meaning that we have a very short attention
span and easy jump from subject to subject. This makes it a little hard to focus for long periods
of time. For me, the positives completely outweigh the negatives. Being in this very media
influenced generation, I believe, has helped in a lot of ways. We are able to get news in a flash.
So fast that if there is an emergency at the University there is a text message that can be sent
to warn the students of any danger. We are able to get a hold of people that we need no
matter where we are. I love the fact that I can get on the internet and talk to my friends from
high school that no longer live close. I like that I am able to keep over 1,000 songs in a small
iPod and carry it around where ever I go. Looking at past generation I can see that they all have
there own contributions to technology, but then you look at this generation and see that we
have contributed so much more.
